The only thing gearheads love more than a muscle car is making a muscle car faster, and the Chevrolet Corvette has, for decades, been a favorite among tuners. When it comes to making a Corvette faster than it already is, few can match the experience and expertise of Hennessey Performance. This tuning company has built some of the craziest Corvettes we've ever seen, and while the company offers a wide number of tuning solutions for all types of cars, the C7 Corvette Z06 still gets some special attention. A month ago, Hennessey unveiled the HPE850 package for the Z06, making, you guessed it, 850 horsepower. Now, the tuner has dropped the top and is showing off the HPE850 in convertible guise, because when you have a supercharged Corvette, you want to experience every decibel of the glorious noise it makes.

In the video we get to see a Corvette Z06 Convertible race around the track and make a bunch of glorious V8 noises. From the outside, this 'Vette doesn't look too radical, but it's hiding a seriously tasty secret underneath its sheet metal. The Hennessey HPE850 upgrade transforms this American sports car hero from mild to absolutely nuts by throwing a bunch of high-quality parts and tuning expertise at it. The stock Z06 is powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter, direct-injection V8 which produces 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed manual, or eight-speed automatic transmission. As the name would suggest, the HPE850 package raises the Corvette's power output to 850 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque.

Hennessey accomplishes this by upgrading the supercharger system with a new pulley, and improving air flow with high-flow cylinder heads, stainless steel headers, upgraded valve springs, intake and exhaust valves, lifters and pushrods, and a camshaft upgrade. The HPE850 'Vette also gets a high-flow air induction system, a high-flow heat-exchanger upgrade, stainless steel midpipes, high-flow cats, and an HPE engine management calibration. The end result is a C7 Z06 Corvette that can sprint to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds, and cross the quarter mile line in 10.3 seconds at 136 mph. We'll take three.
