Because 840-hp isn't enough.
Last week we were privileged with the big reveal of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. All 840 hp of it. With its 0-60 mph time of only 2.3 seconds, the Demon is clearly a force to be reckoned with, and it'd be awesome if Chevrolet and/or Ford responded in kind. That's still up in the air, but what isn't is the fact that Hennessey Performance has already announced on its official website its intention to offer a Demon upgrade package beginning next year.
The only details the Texas-based tuning house has revealed so far is that it'll add "a line of high-performance and racing upgrades...including an NHRA legal roll cage, parachute upgrade, headers and engine tuning." Oh, and upgraded supercharger systems from 1,000 to 1,500 hp. That's nearly double the amount of power the stock Demon offers. As always with Hennessey, exterior and interior modifications will likely be limited to a few badges, but under the hood is a different thing entirely. This announcement comes on the heels of The Exorcist, Hennessey's 1,000-hp version of the Chevrolet Camaro ZR1, which normally boasts 650 ponies out of the box.
No word yet on the Demon upgrade package pricing, but it won't be cheap, that's for sure. The Exorcist Camaro ZL1 upgrade, for example, costs an additional $55,000 on top of the car's regular price tag. But we highly doubt that'll discourage anyone from taking the plunge with the Hennessey Demon.
