John Hennessey drives his creation for the first time, says it feels like a military vehicle.
When Mercedes-Benz first revealed the AMG 6X6, we thought it is was an amazing vehicle that would probably be one-of-a-kind. We had no idea that the 6X6 idea would be so popular, and other companies would want to copy it. At this year's SEMA, John Hennessey managed to take the 6X6 idea and apply it to the Ford F-150 Raptor. The final design looks so good it actually ended up making the Mercedes look tame. So far, we have only seen still photos of the VelociRaptor 6x6, but John Hennessey himself just had a chance to get out and test one out.
Unfortunately, this VelociRaptor 6x6 is a customer car that will be heading to Florida, so it couldn't be tested to the extreme. Hennessey remarks that the 6X6 is so big, that it actually feels like a military spec vehicle. The extra wheels don't take away from the Raptor driving experience, and Hennessey says the extra grunt can help it tow more.
The VelociRaptor 6x6 weighs around 700 pounds more than the standard Raptor, though this weight difference is offset by the Hennessey 600 package. This brings power up to 600 hp and 622 lb-ft of torque, which is plenty to help it crush a stock Raptor in a drag race. Hennessey says that he will likely do a more extensive off-road test in the near future. The company currently has six of these cars in the build queue, and plenty more are expected after that.
