As soon as John Hennessey revealed he had gotten hold of a Corvette Stingray, we knew something special was in the offing. Taking it to 200.6 mph on the Texas State Highway 99 wasn't exactly what we had in mind, but it certainly fulfills the criteria. To push the C7 from 180 to over 200 mph required the fitment of Hennessey's HPE600 package and a nitrous oxide system, which boosts output from 450 to 700 horsepower.

The high-speed run not only verified Hennessey's C7 as the first double-century Stingray, it was also a test of Grand Parkway's new "perfectly smooth" toll road and RFID system that was used to clock the 200mph speed with Texas State Troopers looking on.

If you're no fan of nitrous, Hennessey will soon introduce a HPE700 supercharged upgrade that will push the C7 to over 200 mph without the need for an injection of laughing gas. Interested parties will have to stump up $22,500 for that tasty bit of kit.
