The new Mustang Shelby GT500 now has hypercar levels of power thanks to Hennessey.
Ford loves to remind us that the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 is the most powerful street-legal car in the company's history. Under the hood is a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 that produces a Hellcat-crushing 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque.
This enables the potent pony car to hit 0-62 mph in around 3.5 seconds, do the quarter-mile in less than 11 seconds, and hit a limited top speed of 180 mph. Ford also recently confirmed the 2020 GT500 will do 0-100-0 mph in just 10.6 seconds. It already delivers supercar performance, but Hennessey has wasted no time taking it to the next level.
If you want to extract even more power from the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500, the Texas tuner is offering three upgrade packages. The entry-level Venom 850 package will increase the output to 850 hp and 725 lb-ft torque when running on 93 octane Shell V-Power fuel, while the mid-range Venom 1000 package will extract 1,000 hp and 850 lb-ft torque from the muscle car.
Topping the range is the Venom 1200 package, which, you guessed it, develops 1,200 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 1,000 lb-ft torque at 4,800 rpm. That's hypercar levels of power.
To achieve this monster upgrade, Hennessey adds a twin-turbo system and upgrades the intercooler system and fuel system. Other modifications include a stainless steel exhaust system, upgraded pistons & rods, a transmission upgrade, and a high-flow air induction system to help the 2020 GT500 cope with all that extra muscle.
To remind people this is no ordinary GT500, there are embroidered headrests and a serial numbered dash plaque signed by John Hennessey, along with Hennessey and Venom 1200 exterior badges. There's also a serial numbered engine compartment plaque. Each car receives chassis dyno testing before and after modification and is test-driven up to 150 miles. Hennessey is also offering a one year /12,000-mile warranty. Pricing for Hennessey's upgrade packages haven't been announced, but the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 starts at $70,300.
