What better way to settle an argument than with a drag race.
Since Ford will not offer a Raptor version of its mid-size Ranger in the United States, it's up to aftermarket tuners to build the Ranger Raptor of our dreams. Texas-based tuner Hennessey decided to step up and build its own version of the Ranger called the VelociRaptor, which is now the most powerful Ranger money can buy. The VelociRaptor Ranger was supposed to produce 350 horsepower and 385 lb-ft from its tuned 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder but the final product ended up being a bit more powerful than initially anticipated.
Hennessey says the production VelociRaptor Ranger actually produces 360 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque, going out through a 10-speed automatic transmission. That's a whole lot more than the stock truck's 270 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. With all of that added power, the VelociRaptor Ranger can hit 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds. Not only is this time more than two seconds quicker than a stock Ranger, but it is also almost a full second quicker than the F-150 Raptor (5.7 seconds). Hennessey initially predicted a 6.1-second 0-60 time for its VelociRaptor Ranger, so this 4.9-second time is a massive improvement.
The VelociRaptor Ranger can complete the quarter-mile in just 13.9 seconds at 101 mph, meaning it will beat a stock F-150 Raptor in a drag race. But don't just take our word for it. Hennessey loves to show off the performance potential of its vehicles so it staged a drag race between the new VelociRaptor Ranger and a stock Raptor. The baby Raptor makes short work of the big Raptor, so if you only care about straight line speed, the choice is easy.
Hennessey will sell a fully-built VelociRaptor Ranger for $64,950, or as a $19,950 package if you already own your own Ranger. Only 500 will be built in 2019 so you should get your orders in as soon as possible.
