But it isn't cheap.
The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon has been hogging the headlines this year, and for good reason. As we’re sure you’re aware by now, the drag-focused Demon is the most extreme SRT model Dodge has ever built, packing a 6.2-liter V8 with 840 hp and 770 lb-ft of torque which is the most powerful engine ever fitted to a production car. In retaliation, Texas-based tuner Hennessey created the aptly named monster called The Exorcist designed to outrun the Demon on the drag strip.
Based on the already insane 650-hp Camaro ZL1, The Exorcist cranks out 1,000 horsepower thanks to its larger supercharger and reworked engine. The Exorcist now has another advantage over the Demon – there’s a convertible option. Should you want to make your drop top Camaro ZLR even more extreme, Hennessey will happily give it the Exorcist treatment.
Among the upgrades included in the tuning package are a larger supercharger with 14 psi of boost pressure, upgraded camshafts, ported factory cylinder heads, long-tube stainless steel headers, custom engine management and a high-flow air induction system. The hardtop Exorcist can sprint from 0-62 mph in under three seconds with drag radials and can do the quarter mile in less than 10 seconds. Hennessey has released a video of the convertible Exorcist hooked up to a dyno, allowing us to enjoy its screaming V8 in all its glory. Track testing is said to start soon, so it shouldn’t be too long before we find out the open-top monster’s performance figures.
The only downside? The ZL1 convertible starts at $69,000 and the original Exorcist package cost $50,000. That brings the total to nearly $120,000, so it certainly isn’t cheap compared to the $85,000 Demon. But you can’t get a convertible Demon, so this is really your only option if you want an open-top muscle car with such extreme performance.
