Hint: it wasn't really a Nissan Patrol.
The first season finale of The Grand Tour may not have been the bombastic spectacle we were hoping for, but it still had some memorable moments. After all, the last episode featured the much-anticipated face-off between the Bugatti Veyron and the Porsche 918 Spyder. However, this was overshadowed by the sight of the hybrid supercar being obliterated by…a Nissan Patrol. Clearly, this wasn't an ordinary Nissan Patrol, but its modifications have been kept under wraps. Until now, that is.
1320 Video goes into extensive detail about this surprise sleeper, which has inevitably become more popular since the show was available on Amazon. Unsurprisingly, the vehicle that completely destroyed the Porsche 918 wasn't a Nissan Patrol at all. It was a Nissan GT-R dressed as a Nissan Patrol, which had been heavily modified.
The conversion was extensive - everything from the GTR was stripped out and fitted to the Patrol, including the drivetrain, suspension, brakes, and even the interior. Of course, what you're really wondering is how it was capable of outrunning the Porsche 918, a car that famously set the record for the fastest lap around the Nurburgring. Lift up the hood, and you'll find the GT-R's beating VR38DETT heart stroked to 4.1 liters. The result? An unassuming Nissan Patrol that produces 1,900 horsepower. No wonder the Porsche 918 never stood a chance.
