Last summer we learned that Tesla is not only working on a new Roadster, but also came up with an interesting way to help promote the car before its debut. Teslarati originally reported that Tesla's refer a friend program was being enhanced so that someone would wind up with a free Roadster, assuming they referred enough people who ended up buying a new Tesla Model S or Model X. The current referral program offers owners to gift five friends a $1,000 discount and free unlimited supercharging.

Owners who have successfully accomplished that whose friends bought a Tesla were sent a notification in their Tesla app last July informing them a new "Secret Level" had been unlocked, stating the following: "You've unlocked the first secret level. Refer 5 more friends for the ability to purchase a Founder's Series next gen Roadster at a 10 percent discount. Unlock new levels with every 5 referrals for an additional 2 percent off per referral and amazing adventures that money can't buy." If you do the math, if one were to make 50 successful referrals, then they'd receive a new Roadster for free. Not easy to do that, but one guy has, as Teslarati now reports.

Model S owner and host of YouTube series Teslanomics Ben Sullins has referred over 50 Model S and Model X sales. His Founder's Series next-gen Roadster will now be 100 percent free. Using his now very successful YouTube channel, Sullins has referred not 50, but 55 people to Tesla. All told, he's responsible for $5 million in revenue for Tesla in only a few months' time. Sullins is also seriously into the data and raw numbers. For example, he calculated he's helped offset 47,275 pounds of C02 from being admitted and 4,498 gallons of gasoline from being burned – all by referring his friends.
