The strip tease has begun ahead of its New York Auto Show debut.
The Subaru Forester has been one of the Japanese automaker’s most popular models since its 1997 launch. This compact crossover has consistently won prestigious awards over the years and has become the go-to vehicle for millions. It’s one of those few vehicles out there that, simply put, does everything well. But it’s about time to retire the fourth generation Forester, launched in 2012, and bring in an all-new model.
Set to debut later this month at the New York Auto Show, the media campaign for the redesigned Subaru Forester has officially gotten underway with this teaser image, unmistakably showing the right taillight. That sort of C-shaped design theme is evident here, indicating Subaru has come up with a more aggressive and stylish overall look. The Forester has never been considered one of the prettiest crossovers out there, but then again, Subarus in general are not known for design breakthroughs. However, we do suspect many design cues taken from recent concepts, such as the Viziv Tourer Concept shown earlier this month at Geneva, will serve as direct inspiration.
Details are still a mystery, but what we do know is that it will ride on the new Subaru Global Platform (SGP), which already underpins the latest Impreza. The plan is for all new Subarus from this point on to share that platform. Also expect to see the familiar four-cylinder boxer engines, a CVT, and, of course, standard all-wheel drive. The latest version of the EyeSight driver assistance safety system will also be part of the package. Though the new Forester will likely be slightly larger than its immediate predecessor, it won’t have to be too big because, after all, there’s the also new three-row Subaru Ascent crossover. More details to come in the coming days and we’ll also be on hand in the Big Apple to bring you all of the latest.
