She's got it where it counts, kid
As far as space ships on the big screen go, few are as famous as the Millennium Falcon from the Star Wars films. From the distinctive and allegedly hamburger-inspired design to the bond Han Solo has with his ship that any car owner can relate to, the Falcon has earned itself a well-deserved place as a pop culture icon. So, with the new Star Wars film 'The Force Awakens' opening today, we immediately started wondering what the Millennium Falcon would look like if it was a car.
Thankfully, a Hungarian design student called Robert Kovacs has given us a good idea. This road-going version of the Millennium Falcon may struggle to do the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs, but Kovacs' re-interpretation certainly looks the part, with all those iconic cues from the smuggler ship being present. We especially love how the aerodynamics are integrated into the rear – imagine how much downforce can be generated by a diffuser that's blown by a hyperdrive exhaust port!?
A focus on streamlining is a theme that permeates most of Robert Kovacs' work, with many of the concepts he's envisioned placing a profound emphasis on aerodynamic efficiency and cutting as clean a shape through the air as possible. They're all terrific designs, and are definitely worth checking out once you've finished gawping at his awesome take on the Millennium Falcon.
