After several delays caused by the ongoing semiconductor chip shortage, the 2022 GMC Canyon has entered production at GM's Wentzville Assembly plant in Missouri. Now, GMC has launched an online configurator for the 2022 Canyon, confirming all the available new options and pricing details for the mid-size pickup.

For the 2021 model year, the GMC Canyon was updated with refreshed front and rear fascias and a new off-road-focused AT4 trim, so we weren't expecting any major updates for the 2022 version. In fact, the only notable changes are an available Denali Black Edition Package and an optional wireless charging feature for luxury Denali models.

The 2022 GMC Canyon is available with an Extended Cab or a Crew Cab, with the latter offering a short or long box. Pricing for the Extended Cab starts at $26,800, matching the price of the 2021 model. The Crew Cab starts at $28,700 with a short box and $37,900 with a long box. All prices exclude GMC's destination charge of $1,195.

Available trims include Elevation, AT4, and Denali. In its range-topping Crew Cab guise with the long box, prices range between $37,900 for the entry-level Elevation trim with the 3.6-liter V6 engine to $48,950 for the Denali trim with the 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine. Available with 2WD and 4WD, the 2022 GMC Canyon is offered with three engine options: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine, a 2.8-liter turbodiesel, and a 3.6-liter V6. Paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, the base 2.5-liter engine produces 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque.

The more potent 3.6-liter V6 is rated at 308 hp and 275 lb-ft and is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. If you need more pulling power, the 2.8-liter turbodiesel generates 181 hp and 369 lb-ft.

For our fully-loaded 2022 GMC Canyon Denali, there is a choice of five exterior colors: Summit White, Onyx Black, Satin Steel Metallic, Hunter Metallic, and Cayenne Red Tintcoat. Summit White is available at no extra cost but the premium colors range from $495 to $645. New for 2022, the available $2,295 Denali Black Edition Package adds 20-inch aluminum gloss black wheels, black side steps, a black chrome exhaust tip, and all-weather floor liners.

With all the options ticked, the total price of our fully-loaded 2022 GMC Canyon Denali with the 2.8-liter diesel was just over $55,000 including destination. While the 2022 model is a relatively minor update, the 2023 GMC Canyon will be redesigned and will reportedly only be offered with a turbocharged 2.7-liter gasoline engine.
