Here's a potentially controversial opinion: having 760 horsepower at the disposal of your right foot is only worth it if it sounds mean as all get-out. Ford's performance division has done a swell job with the new 2020 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang, spending countless hours engineering the 5.2L "Predator" V8's sound characteristics until it was "just right," and endowing the car with an electronic-valve exhaust system that affords drivers a choice of noise levels to suit the mood.

But just in case that impressively well-engineered exhaust system isn't quite good enough for you, the performance exhaust wizards at Borla have cooked up an alternative.

The new Borla Performance ATAK cat-back exhaust kit for the 2020+ Shelby GT500 features Borla's loudest, freest-flowing "ATAK" mufflers, with 3-inch plumbing and, for the first time ever, Borla's "SwitchFire" X-pipe design. It retains the factory active exhaust functionality, and with the valves fully open, the sound at full chat is absolutely monumental - more boomy and gruff, with enough volume to wake every neighbor on the block.

We recommend keeping the valves closed around your apartment or subdivision.

The system is made from T-304 stainless for looks and performance that last, and Borla stands by the system with a million-mile warranty. Capping it all off is a set of four 5-inch exhaust tips with a range of finishes available: chrome, black chrome, or carbon fiber.

Sadly, Borla's new ATAK cat-back exhaust kit for the 2020+ Shelby GT500 Mustang isn't yet on sale, and we don't have a price tag to report just yet. But it looks fantastic and sounds superb, building on an already great factory exhaust setup and giving you a little extra aural reward each time you mash the throttle, all without any added drone.

Now if only Borla could put together a product to amplify the GT500's prodigious supercharger whine...
