From next year, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid will be the only version of the Wrangler sold in Europe before the first all-electric Wrangler arrives in 2023. It's also no longer available with a two-door body style across the pond.

In the US, however, the Wrangler will still be offered with a choice of a 6.4-liter V8, 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder, and a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 in addition to the plug-in hybrid 4xe variant. As part of a 2022 model year update, the rugged off-roader will also receive a raft of improvements.

Already one of the most capable off-roaders on the market, the Wrangler Rubicon is now available with a 4.88 axle ratio when equipped with a 3.6-liter V6, delivering a 100:1 crawl ratio. For now, the 4.88 axle ratio is only available on V8 Rubicon models with a six-speed manual but will be offered with an eight-speed automatic at a later date. In terms of tech upgrades, the Wrangler Sahara and Rubicon now feature keyless entry, which is also included in the optional Technology Group for other models.

In addition, Sahara and Rubicon come with an 8.4-inch touchscreen and premium audio system as standard, while the Sport and Sport S trims are upgraded with a standard seven-inch touchscreen replacing the paltry five-inch screen in the outgoing base model.

All 2022 Wranglers will come with a cabin filter that removes 95 percent of air particulates. Sahara 4xe models get blue tow hooks as standard and a blue pad print has been added to all 4xe wheels. The high Altitude 4xe also rides on redesigned 20-inch wheels and features door mirrors with integrated turn signals.

Finally, a new Silver Zynith finish has been added to the exterior color palette replacing Billet Silver. Unsurprisingly, the extra standard equipment means the 2022 Jeep Wrangler gets a price increase. Pricing starts at $33,225 for the entry-level Wrangler Sport, a $655 increase over the 2021 model, and $75,095 for the range-topping Rubicon 392 excluding destination charges.
