To say that Audi had a strong showing at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show is an understatement. The German automaker showcased the new stunning RS7 Sportback, the RS6 Avant wagon, the new A4 Sedan, and the new Q7. Oh, and a crazy autonomous off-roading concept with flying drones for headlights called the AI:Trail. With the Frankfurt Auto Show press conferences now over, Audi is already looking ahead to its next major model debut.

According to Motor1, Audi brought the new e-Tron Sportback on stage but turned off the lights to prevent anyone from seeing it. During the show, Audi confirmed the e-Tron Sportback will be officially revealed in just a couple of months at the LA Auto Show on November 19.

While the E-Tron Sportback was shown in darkness at the show, we already have a good idea what it will look like. It will share its styling cues with the standard e-Tron SUV but will feature a sloping roofline to distinguish it, giving it a more coupe-style shape. A prototype previewing Audi's next electric car was also shown at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, which looked toned-down compared to the e-Tron Sportback concept that was shown at the 2017 Shanghai motor show.

Expect the powertrain to carry over from the standard e-Tron, too, which means the Sportback variant should be offered with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup delivering 400 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque. 0-62 mph takes around 5.5 seconds while top speed should be around 124 mph. As for the driving range, a 95-kilowatt-hour battery should deliver a range between 200 and 250 miles and support 150kW fast charging. This will enable the battery to be recharged up to 80 percent in under an hour.

Inside, the Sportback's interior should also be identical to the regular e-Tron, which has a high-tech triple-screen setup and cameras replacing the traditional side mirrors. After its debut, the Audi e-Tron Sportback will likely go on sale in 2020. Expect Audi to charge a premium for the more stylish Sportback over the regular e-Tron, which starts at $74,800.
