The Ford Mustang Mach-E has proven itself to be Dearborn's golden child. With the gravitas of the hallowed Mustang nameplate, the electric crossover hit the scene with appealing styling, impressive performance, and, importantly, keen pricing; the range kicks off at $43,895. With that in mind, customers flocked to Ford dealerships in their droves, hoping to scoop a Mach-E up for themselves.

This has resulted in a remarkable performance in the sales charts, something that has certainly pleased CEO Jim Farley. However, it's also created headaches for the carmaker. Unable to meet demand, the Blue Oval was forced to stop taking orders for the 2022 Mustang Mach-E. But if you're hoping to slide in behind the wheel of your own Mach-E, not all hope is lost. Blue Oval sources have confirmed that order banks for the 2023 model are set to open imminently.

Customers anxious to place an order for the MY2023 Mach-E will reportedly be able to do so from August 15, 2022, with production expected to kick off on October 31. This will come as a relief for would-be customers, but the ongoing issues plaguing the automotive industry may throw a spanner in the works. Ford has already had to pause production due to the chip crisis.

So, what can we expect from the 2023 model year? Ford's chief executive has already said the Mustang Mach-E will receive the F-150 Lightning's handy charging-locator function through a software update. We're also hoping the new model year will usher in improved range; 2022 models received increased range over their 2021 counterparts. This will give the 2023 model a fighting chance in a segment now bursting with competition.

That being said, we can't imagine the Mustang Mach-E is losing any sleep over its newly launched rivals. Capable as the Toyota bZ4X and other similar electric offerings may be, none have been able to capture the buying public's attention as the Mustang Mach-E has. This is reflected in the sales figures - 6,957 examples were registered in the first quarter of 2022.

It's not just customers who think the electric Ford is a marvelous EV. Consumer Reports seem to agree, rating the Mach-E as the best electric vehicle for 2022. Despite the prestigious award, Dearborn is left flailing in the wake of Tesla's ever-growing sales, with products such as the Model 3 and Model Y enjoying great popularity. However, the arrival of the F-150 Lightning and future battery-powered Fords will certainly reduce the sales gap.
