It's been more than five months since the Hummer name made its triumphant return as a 1,000-hp electric pickup truck. Later this week, the next chapter of Hummer's comeback begins with the world debut of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV SUV on April 3. This will be the first Hummer SUV since the H3 ended production back in 2010.

Ahead of its debut, GMC released a series of teaser videos previewing the Hummer EV SUV's silhouette. GMC describes it as "the next all-electric supertruck." The SUV will share the same design cues as its pickup truck counterpart, with some modifications for the longer roof. We're happy the tailgate-mounted spare tire is staying.

In the teaser video, GMC confirms that reservations for the 2022 Hummer EV SUV will begin on April 3 - the same day as the electric off-roader's world debut during the broadcast of the NCAA Final Four. Be ready to act fast. The pickup-bodied Hummer EV Edition 1 sold out just one hour after its reveal. The new Hummer SUV could go even faster given the popularity of electric SUVs.

GMC hasn't revealed any technical details yet, but the Hummer EV SUV should share the same technical specs as the pickup. That means three electric motors producing a combined 1,000 horsepower, 11,500 lb-ft of torque, and a four-wheel drive setup. GMC says it will accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 3 seconds.

Despite its blistering performance, Hummer EV pickup will go a claimed 350 miles on a single charge. A base model with a less-powerful dual-motor setup will launch in 2023. We're guessing the pickup's 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 13.4-inch touchscreen will carry over. We're also expecting the Hummer EV SUV to have a third row, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Starting at $112,595, the Hummer EV Edition 1 will arrive in dealers this fall. The SUV variant will likely arrive around a year later and slightly more expensively. Hopefully, we'll find out an on-sale date when the Hummer EV SUV debuts in a few days.
