One-Off MSO Pacific Blue McLaren P1 Looks Like An Alien Space Ship

For Sale / 6 Comments

It has over $90,000 worth of extras.

An ultra-exclusive, one-off 2014 McLaren P1 with over $90,000 worth of extras by the UK carmaker's in-house custom shop MSO is currently up for sale over at RM Sotheby's. It's guaranteed to make owners of the latest McLarens, such as the brand-new Artura, pretty jealous. As a brief recap, the P1 was built from 2013 until 2015 with a grand total of 439 examples produced. All are powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 paired to an electric motor for a combined output of 986 horsepower and 774 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission routes all of that power to the rear wheels.

Pricing was initially set at around $1.3 million a pop but, of course, buyers splurged with the options that very quickly added up to tens of thousands of dollars. That's exactly the case with this MSO-customized example.

It's painted in an absolutely stunning MSO Pacific Blue that literally changes colors depending on the light and viewing angle.

Depending on where one is positioned, the P1 can appear to be bright blue, but this can shift to a darker blue tone and even "to a dusty orange, bright purple, and even hints of pink and gold," according to the listing. Basically, it's always changing colors according to the human eye. This body color alone was a nearly $42,000 option. Additional MSO features include the must-have Heritage Badge, done in the style of the nose badge found on the McLaren F1, and something available only to MSO buyers who request a specific amount of options and a Pacific Blue-painted P1 logo in the engine bay.

Step inside and you'll be equally amazed by the extraordinary amount of details. Styling elements such as purple contrast stitching on the headrest, steering wheel, floor mats, and headrests were done to match the exterior paint.

Look closely and you'll notice that the Pacific Blue color was also applied to the seat backs and vent bezels. A satin carbon fiber finish in place of the usual gloss finish was used for every exterior carbon component as well as the instrument cluster bezel.

What's amazing but not totally surprising is this P1's mileage: it's only been driven 3,000 miles since the day it was delivered. As expected, it's received regular service done by McLaren every year since 2017. Its most recent trip to Woking included replacing all four tires.

Invoices for every service visit are also included in the sale, as are the owner's manuals and original service book, two keys with the carbon fiber key delivery box, a car cover, and the must-have battery charger. No mention was made of whether the upgraded high-performance battery was added. The owner further protected their investment by having a paint protection film installed immediately after taking delivery.

Any interested parties should know that this P1 is located in the UK and it is left-hand drive. Importing it to the US should not be a problem because the P1 was homologated for this market from the get-go. A price was not provided because it's only available upon request. For some perspective, the first-ever P1 was for sale a year ago for about $1.8 million.
