The Chevrolet Corvette and Porsche 911 are not seen by many to be direct competitors. Still, the comparison between them seems to be drawn every time there is a new generation. In fact, MotorTrend's first Head 2 Head episode featured a 997 Carrera S and a C6 Corvette Grand Sport. Now, MotorTrend has gone back to recreate this matchup with a 991.2 Carrera S and a C7 Grand Sport. These two cars may be very different on paper, with the Corvette costing $92,000 (as tested), compared to the 911 at $140,000.

Price has always been an area where the Corvette dominates, but the 911 was always given the nod for being the more well-engineered car. The Carrera S and Grand Sport are pretty close in performance. The 911 has a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six with 420 hp, and the Corvette has a 6.2-liter V8 with 460 hp.

You may wonder why MotorTrend tested a Grand Sport Corvette rather than a Z06. Even though the Z06 would be a better comparison to the 911 price wise, MotorTrend has a love-hate relationship with the Z06 because it has too much power to properly put down. The Grand Sport comes with the less powerful engine from the Corvette Stingray, with the Z06's widebody, brakes, crazy aero and tires. So which one of these automotive legends will win in the current generation?
