It may not have outright supercar performance, but the Holden Commodore VF Ute is without question the coolest so-called "light duty" vehicle on the market today. Sadly, it's not expected to be shipped from Australia to the US rebadged as Chevy anytime soon, if ever. It's rear-wheel-drive, powered by a 6.0-liter V8 that pumps out 348 horsepower and 381 lb-ft of torque, and can be had with a six-speed manual. Oh yes, we do want.

And to make our cravings for it even greater, Holden has just announced that the latest version of the high-performance Ute has just set a new record at the Nurburgring for commercial vehicles.

It managed to complete a lap at the famous German track at a time of 8:19.47. For the record, that time is around the same as what was done by the Lexus IS F and even the Chevy Camaro SS. The car wasn't tuned and was in fact a product-correct engineering test vehicle."

It was almost identical to the production version with one major exception: its tires (it was also equipped with a six-speed auto). Check out the trio of videos that documented the VF Ute's time at the Nurburgring and how it just made some history.
