Hollywood Star Set To Join Fast & Furious Franchise

We'll give you a hint: he's being strongly tipped as the next James Bond.

The Fast & Furious franchise has come a long way from the original 2001 film, where the dramatic climax was a realistic drag race between a Toyota Supra and Dodge Charger. Now, these movies are all about explosions, physics-defying stunts, and all sorts of car-related mayhem.

As the franchise is currently working on its ninth movie, Fast & Furious will also spawn a spin-off movie called Hobbs And Shaw, featuring the Rock and Jason Statham. We don't know much about the film, other than audiences enjoyed it during test screenings. Now, we know who will play the villain in this 2019 summer blockbuster.

According to an Instagram post by The Rock, the film's villain will be played by none other than Idris Elba. Elba has recently appeared in films such as Avengers Infinity War, Thor Ragnarok, Star Trek Beyond, Finding Dory, and Zootopia.

Seeing as Elba's Marvel persona Heimdall was recently killed off (spoiler alert) in Avengers Infinity War, it seems like he will have more time to devote to being the bad guy in a new franchise. We are huge fans of Elba, so we hope he will be more of a recurring villain rather than a one-and-done. Car enthusiasts may also know Elba as a celebrity spokesperson for Jaguar, who was also rumored to be the next James Bond.

Here's what we know so far about Idris' character. In his Instagram post, Johnson said "I learned a long time ago (when I was a very sinful eyebrow-raising villainous man in the crazy world of pro wrestling;) that heroes are only as great as their greatest villains. A pleasure to introduce the man himself @idriselba we brought in to our Fast & Furious franchise to wreak havoc, hell, and mayhem on our heroes HOBBS & SHAW. The name: BRIXTON. The record: UNDEFEATED. The promise: SHOWDOWN OF ALL SHOWDOWNS. So cool having my brother @idriselba come and play in our sandbox. This one's been years in the making!!"
