The 2018 Honda Accord has followed in the footsteps of the Honda Civic and Ridgeline to win the 2018 North American Car of the Year. The Civic won the award in 2016 while the Ridgeline took it in 2017. The tenth generation of the Honda Accord has beed designed from scratch and comes with a lighter, yet more rigid body and a new advanced chassis. The sedan is powered by two turbocharged gas engines and comes with a 10-speed automatic gearbox powering the front wheels.

This is the first time that a 10-speed automatic gearbox has been used in a front-wheel drive production car. A hybrid variant is also available with the new car. It comes with new connectivity technologies and driver assistance and safety features. The senior vice president of the Automobile division and general manager of Honda sales, Henio Arcangeli, jr. said, "Honda took on a clean-slate approach to reinventing America's most popular car, and we couldn't be prouder to receive this honour for the Accord as the North American Car of the Year."

The North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year awards recognizes innovation, design, safety features, performance, technology, driver satisfaction and value. It is judged by 60 professional automotive journalists from the United States and Canada. The Honda Accord has been on sale in the United States for 41 years.D uring this time, Honda has managed to sell 13 million units of the car. It also became the first Honda to be manufactured in America when production started in Marysville, Ohio.
