Unless you live in China.
We haven't been overly enamored with the latest offerings from Honda and Acura. Other than a handful of cars like the Civic Type R and NSX, Honda's cars just seem to lack a bit of inspiration. The new turbocharged Civic is a step in the right direction, although we still don't have any information about the faster Si or Type R models. Honda's turbocharged engines will add some sportiness to a rather boring lineup of cars. A perfect example of this is the recently revealed Honda Avancier SUV. Most Honda SUVs are quite dreary, but this one looks great.
The Avancier is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC Earth Dreams Engine. That sounds a bit like the Civic Type R's engine, does it not? In the Avancier, the Earth Dreams Engine produces 268 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque going out to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic. There will also be a "Sport Hybrid" model that might have even more power. The Avancier is positioned as a luxury model above the CR-V. Standard equipment includes LED headlights, tri-zone climate control, touch-screen infotainment, panoramic roof, heated and ventilated seats, and a rear touchscreen control panel. The car was based on the Honda Concept D and will go on sale later this year.
We are highly impressed with the Avancier. It has an impressive new engine, the interior looks luxurious, and the styling manages to be rather exciting (for an SUV). Finally Honda managed to make an SUV that might be somewhat interesting and of course there are no plans to sell it outside of China. Why Honda, why?
