Really? The CR-Z at Le Mans? No, relax, but the Honda Performance Development CR-Z will be taking part in an exhibition lap just prior to the start of this year's main race. The HPD CR-Z will be serving as the pace car for the Speed EuroSeries. If you can recall, it was first unveiled at last year's SEMA Show in Las Vegas. It has an electric motor that's combined with the familiar internal combustion engine and six-speed manual.
There's also a 7kWh Li-ion battery pack in the back. Total power output is 200hp and 201 lb-ft of torque. HPD, Honda's racing division, claims the car has been tested in real race conditions in order to find technical solutions specific to hybrids. The car previously raced in the American 25 Hours of Thunderhill endurance race, where it finished second in its class.
