The Civic Si is nice and all, but the Type R is for the true enthusiast driver.
The Civic Type R is a hot hatchback that’s forbidden fruit for anyone living outside of Europe and Japan. Sucks, doesn’t it? Yes, and there's no chance that Honda will change its minds and ship it stateside. But for those who do have access, the automaker has just released this batch of photos and bit of info about the all-new 2015 Civic Type-R. Although what you’re looking at isn’t quite the final production version, it’s pretty darn close and it’s no longer wearing any camouflage.
More importantly, the new Type-R will be the first Honda to be powered by an all-new VTEC Turbo engine: a 2.0-liter four with more than 280 horsepower. Aside from the engine, Honda engineers have reworked the hatch’s chassis and suspension, and have given it wider tracks. It also comes with big Brembo brakes and 19-inch wheels. Thanks to a lowered ground height and that large rear wing, the new Civic Type-R looks solid. It’s now on a quest to beat the Nurburgring record of the Renault Megane 265 Trophy, which clocked in at 8:07.97. A full reveal is expected in the very near future.
