Honda Sticks Its Coolest Vehicles On A Parade Float

Offbeat / Comments

The results look absolutely wild.

Honda is currently airing an ad campaign called "Forever Determined," which walks through the company's long journey from making motorized bicycles to being one of Japan's largest automakers, and that ad is now being turned into a real-life float.

The ad (linked below) features John Cena as the narrator, which is fitting because you can't see him. There's even a brief look inside the upcoming all-electric Honda Prologue SUV.

Though it won't feature the wrestler-turned-actor, Honda will bring its commercial to life with a new float for the 134th Rose Parade on January 2, 2023, leading up to the 109th Rose Bowl Game in Pasadena, California. The float features Honda and Acura's coolest vehicles, including (from front to back) the eVTOL, or electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, Prologue, Acura ARX-06 hybrid race car, an electric motorcycle, and HondaJet Elite II. Underneath, the float is powered by a 3.5-liter Honda V6.

Honda will kick off the parade, with the float serving as the stage for the "Opening Spectacular." The event will feature a performance by Fitz and The Tantrums performing their new single called Let Yourself Free. Joining them will be youth singers and the Rose Parade Youth Dance Group.

"Our determination to advance the future of mobility is embodied in the Honda products on our parade float and in the 2023 Rose Parade theme of 'Turning the Corner,'" said Jessika Laudermilk, Assistant Vice President of Marketing for American Honda. "Honda continues to embark on new initiatives utilizing our core technologies that will help people make their own lives better, today and tomorrow, and we're proud to showcase that in this year's Rose Parade."

Along with the vehicles on the float itself, a 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid will serve as the pace vehicle for the parade. With up to 43 mpg in the city, the CR-V Hybrid is an ideal vehicle for a slow-speed event such as this. The recently-revealed 2023 Honda Pilot TrailSport will also be on-hand as a sound car for the event. This is another ideal choice since the Pilot offers 113.7 cubic feet of storage space for sound equipment behind the first row.

Still, we think bringing the Acura race car or Max Verstappen's title-winning F1 car to the parade would make a bigger impact. Sadly, it'll still be some time before a self-driving Honda can lead a parade like this.
