Honda will unveil the concept version of its upcoming Juke rival at the Detroit show this week. But for now, these leaked images have made their way online a day or so early.
The quirky Nissan Juke started something new when it debuted a few years ago now, arguably launching a new segment of compact crossovers. With the Juke's sales numbers still going strong, it was only a matter of time until direct competitors would arise. And that time is coming as Honda prepares to unveil its Urban SUV Concept at this year's Detroit Auto Show. Previously all we had to go on was a solitary teaser image, but today a pair of images surfaced online showing us the finished product a little ahead of schedule.
The Urban SUV is built on the same platform as the Jazz, meaning it's smaller than the CR-V. The headlight design is definitely more dramatic than what we've seen from the automaker lately, but what's really grabbed our attention is the pronounced, dynamic shoulder line that runs from the front fender to the rear door. And like the Juke, the rear door handles are hidden in the C-pillar. We don't know yet what's under the hood, but a good bet would be one of Honda's new EarthDreams engines, either a 1.6- or 1.8-liter four-cylinder. A diesel option will also be likely as Honda will want to grab sales in markets around the world.
