And where you can watch it live.
The Fast & Furious film franchise has come a long way from its humble, street racing beginnings. Whereas the original film ended with a drag race between a Dodge Charger and Toyota Supra, the more recent entrants to the franchise tend to feature more explosions and superhuman feats of strength. Whether you like this new direction or not, the ninth film in the franchise (excluding the spin-offs) is set to open in North America on May 22, 2020.
The ninth movie will be called 'F9' and leading up to the first trailer, Universal Studios will host a massive fan event called massive fan event "The Road to F9." The event will be sponsored by Dodge, Xfinity, IMAX, and Castrol EDGE and feature live performances by Cardi B, Wiz Khalifa & Charlie Puth, Ozuna, and F9 cast member, Ludacris.
Universal will host the event on January 31, 2020, in Miami, Florida, which is when the first trailer for F9 will drop. The event will be hosted by F9 cast member Tyrese Gibson alongside Maria Menounos. Other special guests include F9 director Justin Lin and cast members like Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, and the latest addition to the franchise, John Cena. Fans looking to attend the event, which takes place at the Maurice A. Ferré Park in downtown Miami at 3:00 PM EST, can register to win tickets at www.fastandfurious.com/theroadtof9.
"The heart of the Fast & Furious franchise has always been, and will always be, family, and it brings me so much joy that our extended family will be with us to help celebrate the launch of this chapter," said Vin Diesel. "We are nothing without our ride-or-die fans, and we are thrilled that they will be in Miami to welcome old- and new-school cast and crew, as well as usher in a brand-new era of Fast & Furious."
Lucky fans in attendance will have the chance to mingle with the cast members. As a sponsor of the event, Dodge will also set up a Challenger SRT Demon driving simulator so guests can ride like Dom Toretto. Based on leaked spy shots, this latest film will feature a customized Widebody Dodge Charger, a mid-engined 1970s Charger, and the triumphant return of the Supra to the franchise.
