Still absolutely wonderful after all these years.
Something happened in 1989 that helped change the motoring world forever. In fact, this may have been the year that saved the classic roadster. We’re talking about the birth of the Mazda MX-5 Miata. For the past 25 years, this little two-seat roadster has persevered, becoming one of the world’s favorite sports cars. Over 1 million examples have been sold. With its roots in British roadsters, the MX-5 did most things better. For starters, it’s reliable. It’ll always start.
What’s more, it captured everything good about those old MGBs and Lotus Elans without making you fear that you’ll be stranded on the side of the road. And now XCAR takes a look back at the MX-5 through its three generations and even a couple of unique special editions that never made production.
