Hyundai Can't Stop leaking The Facelifted Genesis G70

Leaked / Comments

The latest leak comes from the unlikeliest of places.

Numerous spy shots of camouflaged prototypes confirmed that the Genesis G70 is getting a significant facelift for the 2022 model year. We expect the compact sports sedan to receive major updates on the exterior, making it look more in-line with larger Genesis models like the G80 and G90. Leaked photos showing a completely exposed G70 confirmed this theory, and now The Korean Car Blog has even more proof that the leak was legitimate.

This latest leaks comes to us from the G70's maintenance manual and shows the front and rear ends of the facelifted model.

The images appear to confirm that the new G70 will wear a different grille and use new split headlights like the ones found on the G80 and G90. The taillights should be split as well, but the maintenance book doesn't show them in great enough detail to be sure.

Under the hood, the G70 should receive two new powertrain options, replacing the current 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6. The base engine should grow to 2.5-liters, the same unit found in the facelifted Kia Stinger. While the Stinger kept its 3.3-liter V6, the G70 should receive the newer 3.5-liter twin-turbo mill used by the new G80 sedan and GV80 SUV. Both of these engines should come mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, with the manual option no longer available.

Genesis also plans to release a shooting brake wagon variant of the G70. We don't expect this model to arrive in the United States, where wagons fail to sell in reasonable numbers, but it should be an exciting reveal for European customers. Inside, the G70 is set to receive some updates to the cabin, including an increase from the current eight-inch touchscreen display to a larger to 10.25-inch unit.

Along with the leaked images, KCB says the facelifted G70 will be revealed next week.
