Last month, Hyundai lifted the wraps off the i20 N Line. While the exterior is spiced up with sporty enhancements, it packs the same 1.0-liter turbocharged engine as the regular i20 rated at 118 horsepower. If you want more power, Hyundai is also cooking up a full-fat i20 N that will fight the Ford Fiesta ST and serve as the i30 N's smaller sibling. Ahead of its debut, Hyundai has released new images previewing the hot hatchback's aggressive exterior.

Inspired by the Hyundai i20 WRC rally car, the front of Hyundai's new hot hatch is dominated by a larger air intake providing cooling for the turbo engine and brakes.

At the side, the i20 N rides on bespoke 18-inch wheels with a grey matte finish and N-branded brake calipers, while prominent side skirts give the car a sporty appearance. A roof-mounted rear spoiler also enhances the aerodynamic performance.

Like all other Hyundai N models, the new i20 N is finished in a bold Performance Blue livery with red exterior accents and is available with an optional contrasting Phantom Black roof to give the exterior a two-tone style. Under the hood will be a 1.6-liter gasoline engine producing 201 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque paired with a six-speed manual, which will be the only transmission option for a more engaging driving experience.

This setup should make the i20 N a formidable rival to the Fiesta ST, which produces 197 hp and 202 lb-ft of torque from a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. A limited-slip differential will also be available. Weighing less than 2,645 pounds, the i20 N will hit 0-62 mph in 6.7 seconds and max out at 143 mph. Sadly, Hyundai's new hot hatchback will be forbidden fruit in America where SUVs and crossovers continue to dominate sales. Instead, US customers can still buy the Hyundai Veloster N, which is an affordable alternative to the Volkswagen GTI and the Honda Civic Type R.
