Iron Man trades in his Audi R8 for a Hyundai Kona.
Anyone who has ever seen the Iron Man movies probably knows that Tony Stark's car of choice is an Audi R8. Robert Downey Jr.'s character did briefly switch to a convertible Acura NSX for one movie, but the general trend is always some kind of supercar. Hyundai is hoping to break this trend with a new special edition version of its Kona SUV. It's called the Kona Iron Man Edition, and it won't just be an on-screen one-off - this is a car you can actually buy.
We have seen cars with minimal movie tie-ins, like the Nissan Rogue One Star Wars Edition, but Hyundai has made some significant styling changes to make the Kona suitable for a billionaire, playboy, philanthropist super hero. The Iron Man edition comes painted in matte grey, with a red roof complete with a graphic of Iron Man's mask. There are also unique 18-inch wheels, Iron Man-themed graphics, unique Iron Man-themed startup splash screens, a Stark Industries branded navigation display, and an Iron Man mask on the key fob.
Hyundai has even changed the LED daytime running lights so they more closely resemble Iron Man's eyes. Hyundai built a special edition of the Veloster for 'Ant Man and the Wasp,' but that car was only for the movie. Hyundai says the Kona Iron Man Edition will be available starting in the first quarter of 2019 as a limited production vehicle. Pricing has not been announced, and powertrains have yet to be decided. The car will likely share the Kona's 2.0-liter naturally aspirated and 1.6-liter turbocharged engines, though it isn't know if both will be available on the Iron Man Edition.
