Along with the Tucson, it'll appear in the new Spider-Man movie.
Last week, Hyundai announced that the Ioniq 5 will appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, a new short film by Jon Watts, who directed the most recent Spider-Man films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At the time, we knew very little about the short film or what role the Ioniq 5 will play at the time, but Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available to watch online. As we suspected, it's an extended commercial for the Ioniq 5 featuring Tom Holland as Spider-Man and his best friend Ned Leeds played by Jacob Batalon.
In the TV spot, Spider-Man comes out of hiding following the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home and wants to clear his name. After becoming stranded on a country road, Spider-Man hitches a ride with Ned, and the pair drive to New York, taking advantage of the Hyundai Ioniq 5's 300-mile range.
A 30-second version of the commercial will also air on TV in the US, Europe, China, Russia, and other markets through January 2022. The commercial sets the scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home, which swings into theaters on December 17. In the film, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the all-new Tucson will also make their Hollywood debut. Both models will appear in "key moments of the storyline," so we'll have to wait and see if they are used in any action scenes. The Tucson will also appear in a separate 30-second TV spot.
"Advanced technology empowers the extraordinary and that's why we think Ioniq 5 is a great fit for the latest Spider-Man movie," said Angela Zepeda, Chief Marketing Officer of Hyundai Motor America.
"Our promotional partnerships with characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been highly effective and we think Spider-Man fans around the world will enjoy what we've created, while learning more about our breakthrough all-electric SUV."
As part of the campaign, Spider-Man fans will be able to order a special-edition Spider-Man: No Way Home poster featuring the Ioniq 5 on Hyundai's social media channels as well as digital wallpapers. A behind-the-scenes video of the Ioniq 5 commercial will also be released online. Expect to see more Hyundai product placement in future Sony Pictures Entertainment movies including Uncharted, a movie adaptation of the popular action-adventure series opening in February 2022 that also stars Tom Holland as Nathan Drake.
