This past January at the Detroit Auto Show, Hyundai unveiled its HCD-15 Santa Cruz pickup truck concept. It was one of the surprise hits of the show, a place where the likes of the new Ford F-150 Raptor and Nissan Titan XD also premiered. Obviously the Santa Cruz is only a concept, a crossover-based one at that. But the South Korean automaker apparently wasn't ready for all of that positive feedback. Holy crap! Americans love pickup trucks. What a concept right there!

Previously saying the Santa Cruz was only a design study, Hyundai's R&D division director, Park Byung-cheol, recently told Reuters that because of the concept's "good response" at Detroit, production is now being considered. However, he added there are a few "hurdles" but didn't elaborate further. According to Autoblog, the Santa Cruz concept displayed at Detroit is very far from production ready; it didn't even have an interior. But still, Hyundai might be on to something here and we're quite interested to see where this could go.
