Time to turn things up a few notches.
Not long ago, the completely redesigned 2021 Hyundai Elantra was revealed, featuring edgy new styling that makes it a standout amongst its compact sedan rivals. And now the Elantra N Line is being teased. What you're looking at are the first official images of the 2021 Hyundai Elantra N Line, albeit covered in some light camouflage.
The disguise fails to hide features like a dual exhaust system and some styling upgrades, while there's another interesting element the South Korean automaker is adding: enhanced engine sound. There's a very strong likelihood this is artificially enhanced, but it still sounds pretty darn good in the included video.
As for those styling upgrades, don't expect anything too dramatic though we can tell there's a sporty-looking body kit as well as unique alloy wheels. The suspension also appears to be lowered. Hyundai did mention there will be some powertrain and chassis upgrades, though no specifics were given.
The new base Elantra comes powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, and we suspect that the N Line variant will receive the 1.6-liter turbocharged four-pot with 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of twist from the Elantra GT N Line. Both a six-speed manual and seven-speed dual-clutch are offered here, so it's certainly possible this could also be carried over to the sedan. Fingers crossed. However, the driver in the video is clearly using paddle shifters.
Hyundai hasn't said anything regarding the interior but we aren't expecting any drastic changes there aside from some 'N Line' badging.
At some point, Hyundai will likely launch a true Elantra N on par with the Veloster N. Think of the relationship between N Line and N vehicles like that of BMW's M Performance and M. A future Elantra N, therefore, could pack as much as 275 hp or so thanks to the 2.0-liter turbocharged four that powers the Veloster N and upcoming Kona N.
Hyundai has not yet announced when the 2021 Elantra N Line will officially debut but we expect this to happen in the very near future.
