Back in December of last year, Hyundai acquired 80% of Boston Dynamics, a robotics company that has become an internet sensation. The reason for this is that Hyundai believes that robotics will become an important part of mobility in the future, and now that Hyundai officially owns the company, it has decided to celebrate with a new video showing a robot that behaves very much like a dog and is named Spot. The video starts with the "dog" meeting a child's electric toy version of the Hyundai Nexo before making its way past security and onto the set of a shoot with Korean pop group BTS.

The boy band is a brand ambassador for Hyundai and is immensely popular in South Korea but has also garnered fame in the rest of the world for its 90s-style and cheerful music. The video is just as cheerful and shows Spot mimicking some of the band's dance moves before a more complex routine with other Boston Dynamics robots is displayed on a screen on what would be the robot's back. As mentioned earlier, the video is to welcome Boston Dynamics to the Hyundai family but also shows just how advanced these robots are. Things have progressed a long way since the trippy early prototypes that could barely make it up a single stair.

As the robotics company advances its creations evermore, Hyundai sees opportunities for things like a walking car. With Hyundai now officially closing the deal for the company in June, Boston Dynamics has more investment might than ever before and will be able to advance at an even speedier rate.

While the applications for real-world use in the cars of today may seem scant, it's worth remembering that companies like Tesla have been promising advances like automated chargers for some time but haven't yet been able to crack it. With Boston Dynamics on board all the way, we wouldn't be surprised if Hyundai beats the rest of the world to that.
