Now you can live in an eco-friendly van down by the river.
The iconic Volkswagen camper van could be making a return, this according to a company board member. Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser let the newsslip to Autocar, saying that the concept would draw heavily on the original camper van interms of design. First the wide, solid, D-Pillar, second the boxy designof the center section and, thirdly, the front end must have a very shortoverhang. The distance from the A-pillar to the front end must be veryshort."
The new van would have an electric motor powering the frontwheels and batteries stored under the floor. There have been a few camper vanconcepts in recent years, such as the ones seen here, but now could be the timewhen Volkswagen takes things seriously. The Volkswagen Group’s CEO recently said that the brand hadbecome “complacent” in North America. Sales have been down in the US, and while anelectric camper van wouldn’t right the ship by itself it could signal a brand refresh. If anything modern hippies will welcome the return of an eco-friendly mobile shag pad.
