Presence is now the name of the game in the Japanese luxury segment since Lexus has proven that striking design seems to serve as a good placeholder for having a century or more of experience in the market. While Acura is gradually starting to follow, Infiniti has jumped feet first into the pond, asking its designers for bold and brash styles as quickly as they can churn them out. Proof of that was released in a teaser detailing the new QX80 Monograph and now, the automaker has pulled off the shroud completely.

With press days for the 2017 New York Auto Show just days away, Infiniti decided to show off the full SUV and suffice it to say, it's going to turn heads. While it's nothing more than a design study, the QX80 Monograph is a a signal projecting which direction the automaker wants to head towards in the near future. True to the Monograph moniker, this QX80 only studies how things could shape up for its full-size SUV segment and will not influence design further down the line. Massive proportions mixed with Infiniti's characteristically soft and feminine design cues help the QX80 blend soothing luxury and a domineering presence into something that looks more like a force of nature than a vehicle.

With subtle cues such as blacked out A, B, and C pillars, the top half of the SUV resembles a pillbox or makes it look like it's wearing designer sunglasses. It's also worth noting that the blend of geometric and organic shapes seen here not only follows Infiniti's design language at current but seems to also be a staple of most major automakers like Audi. Interior space is plentiful as it is on the current Nissan Patrol-based QX80, but it remains to be seen how Infiniti will make the interior to shape up. "The QX80 Monograph represents a detailed study into our expertise of exterior design," said Roland Krueger, President of INFINITI Motor Company Ltd.

He added, "QX80 Monograph shows our concept of luxury and style on the road, and is an exploration into how we could enhance our future INFINITI offering in the luxury SUV segment." We can't wait to feast our eyes on it in person next week.
