Jaguar's new flagship is going to become seriously hardcore.
The ever-reliable Auto Express is claiming Jaguar is working on hardcore variant of the F-Type that will put any Porsche 911 to the sword. According to an employee of the automaker, an R-S variant of the Jaguar F-Type is currently in the works that will have in excess of 700 horsepower and top out at over 200 mph. He says "it's going to be insane." So we're happy about that. Oh, and apparently it'll be wearing French Racing Blue like all of the marque's most extreme models.
It's no secret Jaguar has big plans for its new two-seater sports car, and there's even been talk of a R-S GT variant at some point down the line. But what will the Leaping Cat use to power these high-performance roadsters? Given Jaguar has nixed plans of putting the C-X75 hybrid supercar into production, it seems a shame to let its technology go to waste. A turbocharged, supercharged 1.6-liter gasoline unit married to several electric motors doing the business in what will be the carmaker's new flagship is not beyond the realms of possibility. We'll just have to wait a few years to see it.
