There are two extreme ways to approach building an electric vehicle. An automaker can either go for pure economy or insane straight-line acceleration. Toronto-based Daymak has decided to do both, and we endorse this extremity. The company has been around for a while making electric-powered bikes, but currently, it is crowdsourcing the production of the Daymak Spiritus in two different guises, both of them with three wheels like the Polaris Slingshot. One is a $19,995 model called the Spiritus Deluxe. It weighs in at 370 lbs and is powered by a 36-kWh battery to give it a 180-mile range, stretched out by a regenerative braking system. The other, the Spiritus Ultimate, you might want to strap in for because it's outrageous.
The three-wheeled Spiritus Ultimate is slated to cost a whopping $149,000, weighs just 350 lbs, smacks zero to 60 mph in a claimed 1.8 seconds, and has a top speed of over 130 mph. According to Daymak, it manages that acceleration figure and its 300 miles of range using an 80-kWh battery. It sounds wonderfully terrifying and looks eye-catchingly bizarre. It also makes the claims of Elon Musk about the Tesla Roadster sound tame.
Both vehicles also feature seating for two, scissor doors, solar panels, smart and remote start, Bluetooth integration, and an alarm system. The Ultimate model adds carbon-fiber bodywork, a co-pilot screen for the passenger, and the scissor doors operate automatically. It's also ready to incorporate autonomous driving features and solar-trickle charging and features a GPS Alarm, an elite stereo entertainment system, and a reversing camera.
Daymak says that the Spiritus is in the prototype phase and currently set for delivery starting in the second quarter of 2023. The company is now taking deposits in the form of packages that include a $100 coupe on the company's ebikes, merchandise, a Daymak Avvenire Membership Card for life, and locking in a special price on the chosen model. Deposits start at $100 and top out at $50,000 depending on the model selected. The larger the package, the larger the benefits offered - including a meet and greet lunch event at Daymak HQ with hotel accommodations for the top tier offering.
