650 horsepower from a twin-turbo W12.
Given Bentley's massive sales success in 2020 and the new Continental GT's overall popularity, it was only a matter of time before the UK automaker released a faster version. Say hello to the latest Bentley Continental GT Speed, the most performance-focused model yet. Like the standard Continental GT, the Speed uses Bentley's 6.0-liter-turbocharged W12 engine. But instead of producing 626 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque, here it's tuned to make 650 hp (torque stays the same).
With the added power, Bentley says the Speed can hit 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds (compared to 3.6 in the standard GT) and go on to crack 208 mph. However, it isn't just power that Bentley added here; the Continental GT Speed gets other handling improvements too.
The Speed packs an updated electronic all-wheel steering system, which works in concert with the Bentley Dynamic Ride and new electronic limited-slip differential to make the car feel more agile and stable, according to the company. Bentley promises the rear-wheel steering is more active here than on the Flying Spur, where its primary purpose is to reduce the turning circle and enhance high-speed stability. That AWD system is different, too, with the ability to send more torque to the rear than the standard Continental GT.
To improve stopping power, the Speed is available with a carbon-ceramic brake system featuring carbon-silicon carbide discs. These optional brakes feature 10-piston front calipers and four-piston rears, bringing the hefty Bentley to a screeching halt. Opting for these brakes cuts around 73 pounds of unsprung weight and creates less brake dust. That should keep those beautiful 22-inch Speed wheels nice and shiny.
To alert passersby that this is no "ordinary" Bentley, the Continental GT Speed has some unique exterior details. The Speed gets a unique dark tint grille, more sculpted sills, and "Speed" badges on the front fenders. "Jeweled" fuel and oil filler caps come standard, as do illuminated treadplates.
Inside, the car is just as special. The cabin is highly customizable and features a unique duotone color split with leather and matching Alcantara. Customers get a choice of 15 main and 11 secondary leather colors and can replace the Alcantara with leather if they so choose. The Speed offers a new dark tint engine-turned aluminum trim option, but other veneers are also available.
The 2022 Bentley Continental GT Speed is now available for just $274,900 with destination, a 20% increase. It will arrive at dealerships later this year.
