Rumor

Is a BMW 9-Series Super-Luxury Model Coming to Beijing?

A Rolls Royce-sourced BMW with ultra-luxury could take on the next S Class Maybach.

With the Beijing Motor Show set to open on the same days as the NY Auto Show, there are now serious rumors claiming that BMW is planning to unveil an ultra-luxury concept based on the Rolls Royce Phantom. After confirming its plans to build a full size X7 SUV, BMW is continuing its upwards movement, and according to AutoMotorundSport, it could base the 9's design on the stunning Pininfarina Gran Lusso V12 Coupe shown at last year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

With plans for a Mercedes-Benz flagship S Class Maybach model already confirmed, BMW would gear the Niner directly at this car, also aiming high at competition from Bentley and the likes. Though no official details regarding the model were released, we’d expect it to incorporate extreme luxury features and a massive size that would dwarf BMW's current flagship, the 7-Series. Stay tuned for more details prior to the Beijing show.
