There's no smoke without fire and if the number of reports flying around cyberspace are to be believed, we could soon be seeing a range-topping SLS AMG Black Series packing a 650hp 6.2-liter V8 engine and a unique aerodynamic body kit. Bosses at the performance division of Mercedes AMG have hinted that a car sitting between the GT3 and the regular SLS would make sense but is unlikely to be ready until 2014.

The Black Series badge is traditionally reserved for the most powerful and quickest AMG models, such as the 612hp SL65 AMG and the recent 510hp C63 AMG , and if (when) produced, an SLS Black Series would represent the ultimate AMG in existence. Set to reach a top speed of 200mph and accelerate from 0-60mph in three seconds, the extra power will be handled by a stiffer suspension setting, upgraded breaks and racing seats. The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission is set to be retained and the bodykit will include lightweight carbon fiber panels.

With the increase in power an increase in price is inevitable, and given the SLS GT3 retails for around $420,000 in the UK, the Black Series will surely be priced over a half a million dollars, somewhere in the region of two regular SLS's. Photos displayed are of the 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3.
