The Chevrolet Corvette has always been a red-blooded sports car that places performance before anything else. But it looks like Chevy is looking towards the future of the sports car, because a new report from AutoGuide reveals that the automaker has just filed trademarks for "Corvette E-Ray" while the other is "E-Ray." While the trademark filings may not be indicative of an electric Corvette, we don't know what an "E-Ray" would stand for besides an electric sports car. Is an electric Corvette something the world should look forward to?

The American automaker has been trying to expand its electric vehicle lineup lately, so it makes sense that the brand would be looking towards making an electric Corvette. While there's no word on what type of performance an electric Corvette would have, an electric sports car would be capable of giving the Tesla Model S P90D a run for its money. With electric motors filling in the gaps of the Corvette's 6.2-liter V8 motor, an electric variant of the American sports car would be even more performance-oriented, which would be an amazing thing.
