It's gasoline against diesel in a high-performance sedan battle.
The US sadly doesn’t have this dilemma. It would if the Alpina D3 were to be sold there. But since it’s not, US buyers seeking a high-performance BMW mid-size sedan will have to "settle" with the new M3. That’s not at all a bad thing. But still, it’d be nice to something similar, yet different to choose from. If you live in the UK and other parts of Europe, then you’re lucky to have the D3 at your disposal. Like the M3, the Alpina D3 is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six, only here it’s an oil burner.
The guys at Autocar have now put the M3 and D3 to the test in a series of direct comparisons such as acceleration, stopping, and lap times. So which of these two comes out the overall winner? You’ll have to check out the video ahead to find out.
