Is the Ford Fiesta ST Too Late to the Hot Hatch Fight?

Hatchback

There's new competition and it's getting fierce.

For years, the small hot hatch segment was dominated by the likes of the Mini Cooper S. More recently, Fiat launched the 500 Abarth, which has earned quite a reputation of its own. Then Ford finally launched the Fiesta ST last year to overall rave reviews. However, is this little pocket rocket another case of being too little too late to its segment? After all, an all-new Mini Cooper has arrived and the Europe-only competition from the likes of Peugeot and Opel has also picked up in recent months.

So the crew at XCAR was interested in finding out whether or not the Fiesta ST’s moment of glory has already passed. With 180 horsepower and 214 lb-ft of torque coming from its 1.6-liter turbo four, the Fiesta ST is certainly a powerful little thing but how does it handle and perform compared to the latest competition?
