Ford has really upped its game.
Ford went above and beyond with this one. Anything less would be unacceptable. The 2016 Mustang Shelby GT350 is more than just a track-tuned muscle car, as we learned in our new video review. It also pushes Ford into a new realm of performance meets everyday drivability, an art mastered long ago by BMW M. With its naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft, the Mustang Shelby GT350 has a total of 526 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. There’s only one gearbox option, a six-speed manual.
On paper at least, the GT350 comes across as the type of muscle car that appeals only to muscle car enthusiasts. But this is incorrect. Ford was determined to broaden the Shelby appeal without sacrificing performance and handling.
The result is something that could easily be considered an alternative to the likes of the BMW M4. Yes, the Shelby GT350 is that good. And if you’re looking for something more extreme, there’s always the GT350 R. Special thanks to Future Ford of Sacramento for letting us film the car.
