Is the Jaguar F-Type a Worthy E-Type Successor?

Test Drive

We've been waiting years for this car to debut, but does it deliver the goods?

It’s been a long time since Jaguar built a two-seat roadster (and an upcoming coupe). With the legendary E-Type long out of production, Jaguar had an on-again, off-again successor program in the works. But due to budget and other related issues, that successor kept getting delayed. Until now. The long-awaited F-Type is finally here, and it’s available in three delicious supercharged flavors: a V6 that produces either 335 or 375 horsepower, or a V8 that releases 488 hp.

And now Motor Trend gets behind the wheel of that top dog V8 trim, the best, most powerful F-Type you can buy. With its 5.0-liter supercharged V8 tucked under that long hood, this F-Type, on paper and appearance-wise, seems to be a worthy E-Type successor. But does it have that proper Jaguar soul?
