If you thought the recently revealed GTI Clubsport was bonkers, boy, does Volkswagen have a surprise for you. This is the Golf GTE Sport Concept, shown at Worthersee. It packs a futuristic design and a hybrid engine boasting 396 horsepower. There's a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder engine up front and two electric motors, one for each axle. That is said to be good for a 0 to 62 mph time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 174 mph.

There are three driving modes: hybrid, electric and GTE; the latter turns all the motors up to 11 to ensure that no piece of rubber goes un-burnt. According to Volkswagen the concept "bridges the gap between road cars and racing sport cars." The interior looks like something from out of a futuristic spacefighter. The doors swing up, a badass touch, and the seats are racing-inspired with a five-point harness in lieu of a seat belt. The steering wheel looks to be from an F1 car, which should be fun on the track. Enjoy these renderings while you can because the GTE Sport Concept is just too damn crazy to exist in the world we live in now.
