The Porsche Macan is among our favorite SUVs to drive, but we've been waiting patiently for the new electric variant to arrive so that we can see if infusing it with Taycan DNA keeps it fun to thrash. We've seen numerous spy shots of this all-new version of the Macan, but the original assumption has always been that the Macan EV would look almost identical to the regular model. However, Stuttgart's most famous automaker has just released a new book called Porsche Unseen, and it's filled with 15 never-before-seen concept cars from the past 15 years. In this visually rich piece of literature, there are plenty of pictures but one has captured our attention, not for what it focuses on, but rather what is blurrily depicted in the background.

A clay model hiding in plain sight appears to have the silhouette of the regular Macan but there are some subtle styling changes that are guaranteed to make the electric Macan stand out from its traditionally powered siblings in the range. Slimmer headlights much like those on the Taycan seem to be part of the plan, along with smaller air intake grilles. This makes logical sense because of an electric vehicle's reduced need for direct air cooling. Although this is all speculative and although the image in question doesn't give us a clear view of the clay model, we have to say that the Macan looks even sexier with these changes.

At present, details on the new model are scant but we are aware that the Macan EV will be based on Volkswagen's Premium Platform Electric architecture that will also underpin the astonishing Audi e-tron GT. Rumors suggest that we could see as much as 700 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque. Combined with an AWD system thanks to an electric motor on each axle, acceleration should be explosive. As is common on electric vehicles, the battery packs will be mounted low in the body, meaning that despite a massive increase in mass, the electric Macan should still be lots of fun to drive. And that's what Porsches are all about.
